For business owners

My accountant said to look into business finance. What should I do first?

Ask them which figure prompted the comment, roughly how much you'd need and for how long. That tells you whether it's a timing gap or a bigger shortfall, and which loan type fits. Then build a checklist with our Link-up checklist builder and make a short enquiry when you're ready.

Can I get a business loan through my accountant?

Most accountants don't lend or broker, but they hold the documents lenders need and can explain them. The usual path is to agree the need with your accountant, gather their documents, then enquire with a matching service and nominate them as a contact.

Does enquiring affect my credit score?

No. There's no credit check when you first enquire. A credit check is only discussed once you've chosen an option and decided to proceed.

Will my details be sent to lots of lenders?

No. A real person reads your enquiry and matches it to one suitable lender. We don't spray your details across a panel, so there's no flood of calls and no cluster of credit enquiries.

How much can I borrow?

Property-secured business loans run from $20,000 to $5,000,000 using first mortgages, second mortgages or caveats over residential or commercial property. Unsecured, cash flow and line-of-credit options for trading businesses typically run from $5,000 to $500,000, sized on turnover and bank statements.

Do you publish interest rates?

No. Every facility is priced on the business's own circumstances. A specialist explains the full costs of any option before you decide.

Can I apply if I owe the ATO?

Yes. ATO debt is considered case by case. A balance on a payment plan that's being kept, with a clear explanation, is viewed very differently from an unmanaged, growing one.

What if my tax return for last year isn't lodged yet?

You can often still apply using the last lodged year, year-to-date management accounts, recent BAS and bank statements. Some lenders also accept an accountant's letter.

Can I use my home as security?

Yes. Residential property, including the family home, can secure a business loan through a first mortgage, second mortgage or caveat. The funds must be used for business purposes.

Is this only for business purposes?

Yes. We only help with finance for business purposes. Personal or household borrowing needs a different kind of lender.

For accountants, bookkeepers and advisers

How does an adviser refer a client?

With the client's agreement, complete our standard 60-second enquiry with them (or have them complete it), noting that an adviser referred them and including your name and firm. We call the client first.

Is there an adviser portal or partner programme?

No. Referrals use the same enquiry form as everyone else. We don't make commission, fee or partner programme promises to advisers.

Will you contact me as the adviser?

Only if the client has authorised it, and only about what they've authorised. We copy the client into what we discuss.

What do lenders usually need from a client's accountant?

Commonly financial statements and tax returns for the last one or two years, year-to-date figures, an ATO account statement and a short note explaining anything unusual. Smaller cash flow facilities may need much less.

Should I write an accountant's letter for the client?

Only if the lender asks, and only confirming facts you can verify from your own records. Avoid opinions about affordability; that's the lender's assessment.

About us and the enquiry

Who operates Business Loan Link?

Business Loan Link is a trading name of Techgen LLC Pty Ltd (ACN 696 942 391), with an office at Level 26, 44 Market Street, Sydney NSW 2000.

What should I have ready before I enquire?

Nothing is essential for the first enquiry. It helps to know the amount, the purpose, your business structure, whether property is involved and your ATO position. Recent bank statements and ID will be needed later.

Why do you ask me to answer the form accurately?

Because the match depends on it. Accurate answers about amount, purpose, structure, property and any ATO balance let us link you to the right lender on the first attempt.

Still have a question? Contact us, or start a 60-second enquiry and ask the specialist who calls you.
